Positive Stress and Reducing Stress

I was watching a TV interview with master chief Bobby Flay the other night, and he said that he gets really nervous every time just before he goes on TV. But what he said next struck me even more. 

 

“I believe that if you don’t get nervous about doing the thing that’s your passion, then you’re not passionate enough,” he said. 

 

What I took from Bobby Flay’s statement, was that some stress can be really good for you … in fact, it can be your motivation and provide healthy excitement in life. 

 

So, I set out to learn more about healthy stress. That adventure brought me to a website called Reduce Stress Today, where I found an article entitled Positive Stress

 

According to the Positive Stress article, positive stress can occur when you are planning a wedding, looking forward the event and thriving on the endless list of things to do, and tasks to accomplish. 

 

In my mind, that meant that having some stress in my life is a natural and healthy thing. While other stress, like worry or fear is not healthy at all. In fact the article says, “The stress of doing something you find pleasurable, interesting or exhilarating is not harmful.” 

 

Makes total sense to me. So now what I’m going to do is be much more aware of the good stress in my life and make sure that it stays in healthy boundaries.
